Who I am

I'm Joe Fernandez — a senior software engineer who's spent years building and shipping production software at scale, including at a leading tech company's AI organization. Software Joe is how I bring that same engineering to founders, small businesses, and local Ventura County companies: real, dependable software, built by the person you actually talk to.

What I believe about software (and AI)

I'm software-first. Most business problems are solved by well-built software, and AI is a sharp edge to add where it genuinely helps — not a buzzword to bolt onto everything. A lot of my value is telling you when AI is the wrong tool, which is more often than the hype admits. The goal is always the same: make your business faster, leaner, and more profitable with technology tied to a real outcome.

How I work

The engineer who scopes your project is the engineer who builds it — no handoffs to a junior team, no offshore black box. I scope lean (the smallest version that delivers the result), quote a fixed price up front, build it, and hand it off documented and yours. Honest advice first, even when it means telling you to buy an off-the-shelf tool instead of hiring me.
